An Unfitted Method for Two-phase Flow in Fractured Porous Media

چکیده
We propose an efficient computational method to simulate two-phase flow in fractured porous media. Instead of refining the grid to capture the flow along the faults or fractures, we represent them as immersed interfaces with reduced model for the flow and suitable coupling conditions. We allow for non matching grids between the porous matrix and the fracture to increase the flexibility of the method in realistic cases. We employ the extended finite element method for the Darcy problem and a finite volume method for the saturation equation, with a numerical flux that yields the correct entropy solution in the case of discontinuous flux function at the interface between the fracture and the porous matrix.

Application of Homotopy Perturbation Method to Nonlinear Equations Describing Cocurrent and Countercurrent Imbibition in Fractured Porous Media
In oil industry, spontaneous imbibition is an important phenomenon in recovery from fractured reservoirs which can be defined as spontaneous uptake of a wetting fluid into a porous solid. Spontaneous imbibition involves both cocurrent and countercurrent flows. When a matrix block is partially covered by water, oil recovery is dominated by cocurrent imbibition i.e. the production of non wettin...

Cocurrent spontaneous imbibition (COCSI) of an aqueous phase into matrix blocks arising from capillary forces is an important mechanism for petroleum recovery from fractured petroleum reservoirs. In this work, the modeling of countercurrent imbibition is used to develop the appropriate scaling equations. Considering the imbibition process and the water and oil movement respectively as the wet p...

In this study, we present a numerical solution for the two-phase incompressible flow in the porous media under isothermal condition using a hybrid of the linear lower-order nonconforming finite element and the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin (DG) method. This hybridization is developed for the first time in the two-phase modeling and considered as the main novelty of this research. The p...

We present a vertex-centered finite volume method for the fully coupled, fully implicit discretization of two-phase flow in fractured porous media. Fractures are discretely modeled as lower dimensional elements. The method works on unstructured, locally refined grids and on parallel computers with distributed memory. An implicit time discretization is employed and the nonlinear systems of equat...

The temporal discretization scheme is one important ingredient of efficient simulator for twophase flow in the fractured porous media. The application of single-scale temporal scheme is restricted by the rapid changes of the pressure and saturation in the fractured system with capillarity. In this paper, we propose a multi-scale time splitting strategy to simulate multi-scale multi-physics proc...
